Impact Modifier

The core-shell impact modifiers made from the pure acrylic resin polymer DEGALAN® IM are used to improve the impact behavior of engineering plastics such as polyamides, polyesters and polycarbonates at higher temperatures and at sub-zero temperatures. For polyamides, DEGALAN® IM is highly suitable for increasing the impact strength of glass-filled PA in the dry state, with only minimal detriment to viscosity. For polyesters, impact-resistant PBT compounds with excellent electrical properties and good melt-flow behavior can be obtained with DEGALAN® IM.

Even when only 5 wt percent DEGALAN® IM is used, this provides significantly higher impact strength and prevents crack propagation, while retaining the other mechanical properties of the relevant parts. In addition, DEGALAN® IM enables good steering of the viscosity, excellent weather resistance and resistance to UV light and heat, for which acrylics are generally familiar. This makes DEGALAN® IM specially suited for outdoor applications and those with incorporated color, as well as for electrical and electronics applications. It is particularly noteworthy for its outstanding processability, which is due to its good dispersibility and the defined size of the rubber particles. These properties are accompanied by excellent compatibility with other additives for engineering plastics, e.g. stabilizers, lubricants, pigments and fillers.

DEGALAN® IM meets the requirements of FDA 21 CFR Section 175.300 and is approved for food contact applications. All valid restrictions must be observed.
