DEGALAN® PVC Processing Aids

In order to obtain a homogenous melt when processing unplasticized PVC, the PVC matrix has to be split and the powder particle has to be broken down into its primary particles. This process is improved by using acrylic processing aids. Since the particle structure of PVC has a crucial influence on the rheology of the PVC melt, acrylic processing aids can steer the melt process of PVC and ensure the formation of a homogenous melt. DEGALAN® processing aids are acrylic copolymers that are highly compatible with PVC with a molecular weight of more than 1,000,000 g/mol. These polymer chains increase the internal friction and heat transport between the individual PVC particles.

Beyond this, acrylic processing aids ensure intensive friction between the PVC melt and the metal surfaces and thereby improve the introduction of energy. The specific use of acrylic processing aids gives processors the possibility of steering and influencing the homogeneity, viscosity and elasticity of the PVC melt, as well as its plasticization and setting behavior. All of the parameters listed here are key factors for processing PVC and are the prerequisites for end products of constant high quality. In this way, processing aids can be used to optimize dimensional stability, surface quality, impact resistance and processing latitude.
